Is a dripstone cave rare?

An overworld cave biome, Dripstone Caves are filled with clusters and pillars of pointed dripstone as well as dripstone blocks. While these biomes aren't listed as rare in Minecraft they, still might take some time to find.

Mega cave. A mega cave. Mega caves are huge spacious caves that are extremely rare to find. They expose many ores and can potentially expose much of a mineshaft.

1) Dripstone caves can still be dangerous

As a subterranean cave, dripstone cave biomes are every bit as dangerous as other cave biomes. Furthermore, these biomes are capable of generating within ravines, meaning unaware players may end up meeting a horrible fall if they don't stay alert.

There are 20 game ticks every second in Minecraft, and for every tick, there is a 0.0113 chance of a Pointed Dripstone to grow from a Dripstone Block. That means that, on average, you're going to be waiting somewhere between five days in your Minecraft game for it to happen.

With lava above the dripstone block, the stalactite will slowly drip it into the cauldron, filling it up. After about one in-game day, the cauldron will be filled with lava, while the lava above the dripstone block will remain the same.

Falling on normal blocks deals 18-20 points of damage, falling on a Dripstone deals around 8 and reduces armour durability.

Can dripstone fill a cauldron with potions?

How is dripstone formed?

They form by dripping water, and are thus varieties of dripstone. Slowly dripping water results in large/long stalactites hanging from cave ceilings. Rapidly dripping water results in large/tall stalagmites projecting upward from cave floors. Stalactites usually have a hollow central canal through which water passes.

A lush cave contains springs and shallow lakes with clay where dripleaf plants grow out of them. Sometimes these lakes generate dry. Players cannot spawn in a lush caves biome during the world generation.

Pointed dripstone is an item that you can not make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game.

One of the easiest ways to locate a lush cave is by searching for an azalea tree on the surface. These trees are made from normal oak logs but have azalea flowers mixed into the leaves. Azalea trees grow over lush cave biomes, making them a 'marker' that you can use.

Pointed dripstone on its own takes 5 real life days to grow, so it is almost unable to farm on its own. If you place water above the block which the pointed dripstone is growing on, it will grow slightly faster.

As liquid flows through a stalactite, it will drip onto the floor. However, if you place a Cauldron underneath the stalactite, the liquid will slowly drip into and fill up the Cauldron. This will not deplete the source, meaning that you can use this tactic to create infinite lava.
