Is the KX500 faster than the CR500?

The KX500 was the power king on the dyno at 58.78 peak horsepower, beating out the CR500 by 4 horsepower; it just took longer to get there. In the torque category, the CR500 offered 47.53 pound-feet of torque in comparison to the KX500's 45.18 pound-feet.

The CR500 was highly adored for its power and price – at $2,598 and with a claimed CR500 horsepower of 59 hp (43.4 kW), consumers were guaranteed a sweet deal and got more than their money's worth.

Why did they stop making 500cc dirt bikes? There was no pro class for them to race is, so the dirt bike manufacturers discontinued making them because they aren't popular and practical enough for casual riders. A 250cc 2 stroke was more than enough power for the average rider.

2001 was the last year of the CR500 then Honda discontinued them. This was due to the AMA 500 motocross races which were discontinued back in 1993.
