Why did they stop making 500cc dirt bikes? There was no pro class for them to race is, so the dirt bike manufacturers discontinued making them because they aren't popular and practical enough for casual riders. A 250cc 2 stroke was more than enough power for the average rider.
2001 was the last year of the CR500 then Honda discontinued them. This was due to the AMA 500 motocross races which were discontinued back in 1993.
The Kawasaki KX500 has become the motocross version of fine wine—it gets better with age. With its official retirement in 2004, and without any significant updates since 1992, the KX500 has had 25 years to ferment.

The MMX 500 weighs an impressive 127 kg and has a maximum speed of 193 mph.
If by the biggest dirt bike on the market you are referring to the engine cc and the top speed that it can reach, then you will love the MAICO 700 2-stroke. The MAICO 700 2-stroke is one of the biggest dirt bikes ever made. The dirt bike is fueled by a massive 685cc engine that puts out 82 horsepower.

1,000cc motorcycles can have a top speed ranging from 100 to 226 mph, but the average top speed for these motorcycles is around 140 mph.

2022 Kawasaki KX450 Engine
With a drum-roller-friendly Dunlop D404 street tire mounted on the rear wheel, the KX450 made 52.2 hp at 9,500 rpm and 32.4 pound-feet of torque at 6,900 rpm on our in-house dyno.
The rarest dirt bike in the world is the 1968 Suzuki TM250. Only 65 of these bikes were sent to the US in the first batch, making this a very rare find if you love a classic dirt bike.
Why are there no 2 strokes in Supercross?
When the 1997 AMA Supercross season began, Henry was competing on the 2-stroke YZ250. Because there were still a few problems with the settings for the carburetor accelerator pump on the factory YZM400F, the decision was made to not race the bike until the second half of the AMA Nationals season.
The displacement rules make it possible for a rider to use a four-stroke 250cc bike in the 450 Class, but a 250cc two-stroke is not allowed to race in the 250 Class.
