The V Star 650 was produced for many model years from 1998 to present, however not all model years were available in the United States. For the current model year, the 650 is not in production, but Yamaha does have a 2020 and 2021 VStar 250 available. Yamaha also offers Star touring bikes, but again not in the 650.

The V Star 1100 is an all-around excellent bike.
These bikes are known for being very reliable. All in all, it is a very well-rounded, mid-size cruiser. If you are looking for a bike that has a decent amount of power and rides comfortably on trips, this may be the bike for you.
If you've been on smaller motorcycles before and you are comfortable with your clutch and throttle control, a 650 cc motorcycle is a great first bike. The single- and twin-cylinder 650 cc bikes are not too intimidating and you won't outgrow them soon.

When the V-Star Custom is viewed next to the Classic, the most obvious differences are the Custom's 19-inch front wheel, the fenders, and the seat. What surprised us when we rode the Custom was how much those simple changes (and a few not so visible ones) alter the character of the bike.
How can you tell the difference between V Star 1100 and 650?
The V-Star 1100 has dual front disc brakes, while the 650 is only equipped with a caliper on one side of the front wheel. On the back of the bike, the 1100 is equipped with a disc on the rear, while the 650 features a drum brake.

The V Star 650 got its start back in 1997 for the 1998 model year and had a run right up until 2020/21 when the last of the models rolled out the factory; although I suspect we are likely to see a new generation from Yamaha Motorcycles at some point.

Cruiser bicycles are easy to ride on flat, straight routes but very hard to ride up steep hills and to navigate tight turns. That's because of their signature traits: relaxed riding posture, balloon tires, and long wheelbase. Those attributes are great for comfort…at the cost of efficiency and precise handling.
